The burgeoning reputation of the Tamworth Male Voice Choir was further enhanced last week when their ‘Night in the Park’ event in Hints was watched by a sell-out audience of almost 150 people.
They performed choir standards such as With a voice of Singing, Morte Christi and Arise O Sun as well as old favourites such as African Trilogy and American Trilogy. Recent additions to their repertoire were particularly well received. These included Anthem from Chess, Bui-Doi from Miss Saigon and a selection of songs from Les Miserables. The choir also performed another recent addition to their repertoire that is sure to become a firm favourite with audiences for many years to come, Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus.
Whilst the choir took a few moments of well earned rest the audience continued to be entertained by a variety of performers, some of which were a piano recital from accompanist Marion Brannan, a duet by First Tenor Geoff Topham and Musical Director Andy Smith’s wife, Kate, another by First Tenor Pete Cooper and a friend from Coventry, a solo from the Bass section, Denis Reardon, a clarinet duet by Jane Maugham and Becky Ward, a year 12 student from QEMS who is shortly to take her grade 8 examination.
A rousing finale of Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem and Rule Britannia were accompanied by a number of fireworks that sent everyone home thoroughly entertained.
