history...
The vision of one man, the late Ken Barnes, that there should be a Male Voice Choir in Tamworth came to fruition when a few interested souls aided by the Overseal Quartet gave their first concert in Tamworth Castle courtyard on a dry St Swithin's Day in 1977. Since those early days the choir has visited Bad Laasphe, Germany (Tamworth's twin town) on five occasions and has hosted the Obendo rf-Rüppershausen Male Voice Choir on their several visits to Tamworth.
The choir took part in the two World Choir Concerts in Cardiff and were present at the VE Anniversary celebrations in Hyde Park in 1995. The choir has sung at the Birmingham International Tattoo, assisted the Cannock Ex Servicemen's MVC to celebrate their Golden Jubilee with the band of HM Royal Marines and have been part of the Anglo-Welsh Choir at De Montfort Hall Leicester.Strong connections have been forged with the Ogmore Valley MVC, South Wales and the Ilfracombe MVC with week-ends spent at both these venues. The choir has been regularly invited to open the Male Voice Choir season at Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno.
During the last few years the Choir has become a Registered Charity, been sponsored by KT Electrics, Tamworth and has received awards from the National Lottery.
The popularity of the Annual Concert in November now demands two consecutive evening performances. In 1986 Gordon Thomas was appointed Musical Director and under his direction the choir has a wide range of songs in its repertoire.
The Choir is a member of the National Association of Choirs.
